Elijah Wald (born August 4, 1959) is an American folk blues guitarist, singer, and music historian.
He has written several books on the history of American music, including Narcocorrido: A Journey into the Music of Drugs, Guns, and Guerrillas (2001), which explores the genre of narcocorridos – Mexican ballads that depict the lives and struggles of drug dealers and smugglers.
Wald also wrote the well-received biography, Escaping the Delta: Robert Johnson and the Invention of the Blues (2004), which explores the history and myths surrounding the legendary blues musician Robert Johnson.
As a musician, Wald has recorded several albums, including the acoustic blues album, Songs of the Open Road (1992). He is known for his fingerpicking guitar style and his ability to blend traditional blues and folk music with more contemporary styles.
Wald is also a respected music critic and has written for publications such as Rolling Stone, the Los Angeles Times, and the Boston Globe.
